new foal!
To spare those not interested...well, okay to also spare me the effort of going back and copying it all when I've been awake for nearly 30 hours...if anyone wants to see photos of our PMU filly who came home today you can go to my journal. http://saigh-allaidh.livejournal.com/284011.html *falls over*

Another baby step to stopping the slaughter
The DeKalb slaughter house in Illinois has been shut down after a federal court determined that it illegal for the USDA to accept money for inspection. Full story here http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-070329horse-slaughter,1,3039045.story?track=rss

There were efforts to rescue the horses that were already taken there but weren't taken into slaughter, but it was refused. http://www.habitatforhorses.org/whatsnew/effortsrefused.html

We still need to work on getting the Horse Protection Act S.311.IS and H.R.503.IH through the Senate and House, as this action does nothing to keep the horses from being taken to Canada or Mexico for slaughter. Also H.R.249.IH has been introduced to the House to restore protection for Wild Horses.

For those who feel that the "Unwanted Horses in Kentucky" article was a great blow here are two responses exposing the lies: http://www.stophorseslaughter.com/kyarticle.htm

I just joined this community since I'm a big supporter of equine rights, however PMU rescue is my own special cause (since my family owns three PMU horses), so if anyone owns a pmu horse or also wants to concentrate on that area you can check out pmu_rescue.

I apologize already to the mods if this is not allowed, however I am interested in affliating if you so like.

Return To Freedom Action Alert
July 14, 2005

Several weeks ago we asked you to contact your U.S. Representatives
to urge them to support the Rahall-Whitfield Interior Appropriations Amendment to stop federal funding of the sale/slaughter of wild horses for fiscal year 2006. You spoke out in massive numbers and we won that vote by a landslide!

Unfortunately, the Amendment was not introduced in the Senate version of the Interior Appropriations bill. However, there is still a chance to hold onto the victory that we achieved in the House: The House and Senate will be meeting in Conference to hash out the differences between their bills and draft a final, unified version. We need you to contact Members of the Senate that are on the Conference Committee and ask them to keep the Rahall Whitfield amendment in the final version of the Interior Appropriations bill.

Here is the list of Senators on the Conference Committee:

Please take the time to call them today and ask others to call. Do not write or email - that takes too long to process and there is no time for that. Ask for a definitive reply quickly. You don't haveto live in these Senators' states, but people who do have more clout, as they are constituents.
